Giving Thanks in a Tangible Way
For those of you outside of the US, today is the day we celebrate Thanksgiving. It's a time to pause and be thankful -- and increasingly, to stuff our faces with turkey and watch some football. So we're taking the day off. This post was even written in advance. There is a new On Assignment coming tomorrow, but for today, it's turkey and football.
Pay it Forward
If you are feeling extra thankful this year and would like a way to express that in a very concrete and photographic way, might I suggest participating in the Help Portrait project, which happening is two weeks from this Saturday. I think it is a fantastic idea, and have already made plans to contribute.
As always, I continue to be thankful for all of the new friends I have met via this site, and for all of the wonderful experiences that have happened as a result.
Many thanks to all of you for that, and a safe and happy Thanksgiving to all.

I agree with DH! lot of us are enjoying the Thanksgiving dinner... and probably feeling a bit extra thankful...
Couple of us in Shanghai China are planning to participate in the Help-Portrait. Forming a team of people here as we speak.. and i am sure it is happening all around the globe too!
It's all about giving!
But even tho this is meant for giving, not taking... who knows .. you might end up take home with a few new strobist tricks...
happy thanksgiving!
I'm not in the US, but I'm already participating on Help-Portrait. Well, I might say I'm organizing since there are only two of us (amateur photographers) participating in the area.
Please join us in this beautiful gesture :)
Happy Thanksgiving Day from the UK
Happy Thanksgiving to all; from the UK
Hi David. Happy Thanksgiving ! Funniest thing is that this all shows that the turkey has been eaten in advance as well! :-)
I commented earlier about my idea to translate your 101&102 into czech language. Let me know asap if you find it interesting.
Enjoy!
Happy Thanksgiving from Germany, David. On behalf of the Strobist Germany group here, hope you can make it over some time in 2010 for a seminar. According to the postings on the german Flickr page, strong interest! Berlin would be an incredible location.
Thank you David for all that you have done and continue to do in making flash photography such a thoughtful and enjoyable experience.
thanks to you for this blog!!
here in belize we will be having the usual turkey, but no doubt with hot sauce!
Okay, only 'cause you guys (Americans) invented it are you allowed to have Thanksgiving on the wrong day -- says this Canadian :)
Hope the "repercussions" of all that turkey aren't too acute!
Thank you David, for all the great information and resources you have brought to all of us. Have a great Thanksgiving.

You are more than welcome to create a Czech translation document of L101. Please follow the guidelines detailed here:

The turkey in your pictures look slightly 'over cooked' ;o)
Sorry .... I'll get the door :os
We joined this project a little over 3 weeks ago and have a huge event planned in our area what better way as photographers to give back with our talents than sharing a smile and your heart with someone.
Hi all,
We are not celebrating Thanksgiving here in France, but I happily join you : happy Thanksginving to everyone !

Always good to give back.. I anyone's interested, there are lots of other photographic charities out there too. I shoot for Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep ( www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org ), bereavement photography for stillborn babies and infants who pass before leaving the hospital. Also is the American Child Photogs Guild ( www.acpcg.com ) that shoots portraits for terminally ill children too.
