Ecosystems 101: Photography is a Currency

Whether you are a pro or an amateur, it is important to know that photography is more than just a language. It is also a currency. Which is to say that it has value, and it is fungible.

You can make it, you can spend it and you can exchange it. You can create it out of nothing. And the more you think about that, the more possibilities will start to pop into your head.

Your skill as a photographer can create value out of nothing. It's alchemy. And you can use that value to do good, to obtain experiences, to gain access, to exchange for money—or to do absolutely nothing.

The latter is the default. If you are not thinking about the value your photography has to others, that doesn't mean it is valueless. That just means you are throwing that value away.

You're not 'a photographer.' You are an [insert what you are here] with a superpower of photography.

The question is, how are you going to use it? How are you going to spend it? What are you going to get for it? What are other people going to get out of it?
