Two SB-24's, Some Ebay Remotes and a Thinking Photographer:
I happened to be checking out the Strobist Flickr stream right when reader Moosehd2 (AKA Ken Brown) dropped this photo of a Mercedes 300SL.The simple-but-effective lighting design is both inspired and inspiring. See if you can figure out how he lit the shot, then click through to his photo to find out.
Says the photographer, who shoots for a collector and a museum, "Funnily enough, I don't really like cars."
Yeah, well. The photo is still awesome.

perhaps he doesn't really like cars, but he certainly has an eye for the beauty of (auto)mobile sculpture. that's an exceptional collection of photos and cars in his flickr site
thanks j.george. I used to like cars, but then I worked at that auto museum for 6 years (operations for 5.5, photog for a few months) and well, at the end of the day it's "If I see one more car..."
David,
I know you are a fan of pocketwizards but they are pretty much out of my price range. I frequently hear about the eBay remotes but there are so many out there...do you have any suggestions on what kind are working for people? Thanks!
Daniel
Kenneth,
glad for your sake then that you didn't work instead photographing women for Playboy. ;^)
JG
haha
Daniel -
I just ordered a couple of the ebay romotes and am NOT satisfied. I order 2 pairs: the first pair fired by itself, but if I was standing between the receiver and transmitter, no action. The second pair is better, does not fire by itself. But it fails to fire at least 30% of the time, if not 50%. These are going back.
I see the shopt of the Mercedes made PopPhoto's "images of the year list! Congrats, Ken.
If you buy the EBAY remotes you will have to mod them. Lots of stuff on Flickr.
Check out the inexpensive radio slaves on white-lighnting.com....I've got 4 of them and they work great...
I just received my YongNuo triggers and while I haven't shot 2000 frames with them the 60 or so flashes I have put through them (and the yongnuo flashes) I am happy. We will see what happens in a few months to a year.
