Another Crafty Bouncy Thing

Sean, whom I met in Paris last month, has a simple little bounce diffuser thingie he designed out of craft foam and Velcro. It's DIY-able, but if you are well-heeled, or time-poor, or just plain lazy, Sean will sell you one here.

(Don't tell anyone in Microsoft legal what he called it. You know how those soulless corporate types are...)

Hmmm...I'm not sure that I see anything innovative here. Velcro and craft foam are pretty much the standard for DIY flash bouncers aren't they?

Isn't $15 a little pricey for craft foam and Velcro?

Ok, after several hours of contemplation, I still can't get the Microsoft reference.

Care to elaborate?

He called it a halo, which is a somewhat popular video game published by Microsoft.

It took him 8 months to take abetterbouncecard and put velcro on it. Not only is he a professional photographer, but he's likely a mensa member as well.

I've been enjoying the videos you share and thought I'd point you to this one, replace "writer" with "photographer" and it holds quite well. I'm sure it'll cause quite the discussion

Deja vu all over again. As pointed out it is basically the better bounce card (BBC).

I like the BBC better because it uses an elastic to attach it.

There is also some new stuff using black foam and some limited white foam pieces.E.g. the Feather-Light version.

Interesting! I have a black foam sheet.

Other than the shape and the method of securing it, I don't see anything new with this one. Even the bbc has attempted to deal with the flash hotzones/shine with the feather light. Let's see this one come out with their solution :)

Anyone know where this foam can be purchased?

Steve, try a local craft store for "craft foam". I hit my local Hobby Lobby here in Colorado and they have 12x18" sheets in 2mm thick for 79 cents, or 3mm thick for 99 cents. I've made one so far (using metal snaps and not velcro) and will be making a second one today.

Not sure he really invented it, I have one that is more the shape of the "A Better Bounce Card" with velcro on it that I've been using for some time now.
Although, at least he's not as full of himself as the abetterbouncecard.com guy who just discovered he can use black craft foam in stead of white to make barn doors. ...though he still hasn't discovered velcro yet.

Chuck Gardner has a DIY link:

I've made a few of these. I use heat n bond instead of stitching. Foam is $0.89 per sheet. It also looks more professional...
