You Rocked The Apple Store in Columbia, MD

Created with Admarket's flickrSLiDR.
Okay, so I am at the Church of Steve Jobs a couple of days ago, coughing up for Leopard, and I'm loving those glossy-glass new iMac screens. And to really show it off I stuck up a slideshow of the Strobist Faves Gallery and just let it play.

You guys quickly drew a small crowd, with oohs and ahhs all around. As well you should: Thats' some pretty kickin' stuff that has been coming through lately.

(UPDATE: Some people are reporting problems viewing the slideshow above. If it is not working for you, you can see the big Flickr version here.)

Mouseover the pic to clear the nav stuff out. Then, mouse up top to to get speed/direction control and down bottom to see thumbnails. Click on the pic to get the photog's info (and avatar!)

As for the cool-as-a-moose new slideshow plug-in, you can set one up for free for your own blog here.

It looks like there is a problem with the slideshow, all I get is an "unknown error" message. I have not commented before, but thanks for publishing this blog. I think I have read every post, it has changed the way I think about photography.

I'm about to buy one of those iMacs --I'm converting from PC-- and I wonder if you'd recommend the glossy monitor or the anti-glare?

I am not so crazy about those new super glossy screens. To many reflections and glare to deal with on them. I am hoping that they will be an option and not a must in the future.

@Bob

I did not see your comment until after I had posted mine. I was unaware that they have a anti-glare monitor option on the new iMac's.

My opinion... the glossy may look great at first glance but after working on it for hours on end... well I think it might be more prone to strain your eyes and or give you a headache do to the extra glare.

Yeah Leopard is great isn't it? Unless you're a Lightroom user like me. Well, it's not so bad, unless you print (Leopard breaks the print module) and import (it won't let me import directly from my camera). Hopefully Adobe will come out with a fix SOON! I do love Leopard though.

I've been using my macbook pro with a glossy screen for a year now, and haven't had any problems with headache or reflection - what i love about it is that it's SHARP. I can see the crispness of my images and it's great for graphics and imaging work. I work 6-8 hours a day on it (after a 6-8 hour day on a matte flat panel screen at work) and I prefer the glossy to the matte surface.

Thanks for the heads up on Leopard from Amazon. I was waiting to see what the problems were first now I know where to get it!

My laptop has one of these glossy screens, looks nice at first. I can hardly see the screen on battery because of the glare, any dust on the screen, or anything really makes it difficult for me to view the picture on the screen. I should have read up on the computer before purchasing, I am thinking about selling it, and getting a smaller laptop, more for mobile photography and such. This one is a 17"!

Let me break from the Leopard meme here to acknowledge the really great work of those in that Strobist favs slideshow.

It really is a treat to see how folks are growing their talent, literally before our eyes. A great, great effort, folks.

"Unknown Error" for me, too.

I really love PicLens, a free Firefox plugin that gives you full-screen slide shows for flickr, Google Image Search and other sites.

I was at the Apple store in Columbia, MD a couple weeks ago. I was looking for Leopard as well, but I was a couple weeks too early. I guess I missed seeing the Strobist himself putting up a slideshow on one of the new iMacs.

I got a note today at work about folks having the option to upgrade to Leopard. One of the caveats that we got was that Leopard and Photoshop CS3 do not play nice together. I don't know any particulars, I just wanted to give folks a heads up.

I get "Unkown Error: as well. To help David figure it out, you guys should mention what you're running! I get the error using Safari in 10.4.10. The slideshow window ran fine in Firefox on my Windows 2000 machine.

Try clearing your cache. The "unknown" error seems to be affecting a small number of people. I am running a Mac (OS X 10.4.10) and Safari (2.04) FWIW.

Unknown error here too. In my experience most people don't bother to report a faulty web page, they just click and move on. Fails on Firefox 2.0.0.9 and IE6 and IE7 on WinXP on two different machines.

I've tried Firefox and Safari in Leopard OS X 10.5, I've also tried Firefox and Safari in OS X 1.4.10, and also Firefox and Internet Explorer in Windows XP. None worked, Unkown error for all.

Hey there's one of mine. Thanks David from myself and the model/motorbike rider. Also, and I think I speak on behalf of approximately 1M people when I say thanks for Strobist too. Great work. Slideshow worked for me a few days ago now I get the unknown error so I don't think its the browser. Incase it helps though I'm on Safari 1.3.2
