Seattle Strikes Again: Hangar Meetup Video
The Seattle crew has posted their video from the latest weekend meetup, raising the bar yet again on their peer-to-peer lighting meetups. I was able to pop in on this one -- and if I would have known they were this fun, I would have started coming long ago.
Just the usual: Fifty photographers, a rented airplane hangar, a ridiculous amount of lighting gear, nine models, a table full of way too realistic-looking weaponry and an "after party" at an insanely cool local studio.
There's a full write-up, including photos a vid by Chase's guys, coming shortly. But I thought you guys might like this look at how the Seattle folks roll.

I'm so jealous! Any chance we can do this is SF? Also, anyone hear of piclens? It throws flickr images onto a 3d wall and even shows full res! I was looking at Martin Prihoda's images and they're sweet! All full res!
www.piclens.com.
Is there a flickr pool for this one?
Is there a flickr pool?
Great :(
Here in Puerto Rico is Me My Self & I...

Shouldn't this be the plot to a comedy. You know a group of 50 testosterone driven photojournalistic fashionista uber- geeks schedule a drive in photo fest and then come to find out their location is next to a
? You fill in the blank.... The mayhem that ensues.....
search flickr for the following phrase:
chasejarvishangar1
that should turn up all the shots.
Try this link

I am friggin moving to Seattle tomorrow.
And you guys thought the NW was only good for landscapes.... :)
7:15, very sexy Chase. 7:25, just brilliance! Those 2 shots made my day.
I am totally jealous, not only do they have those badass reunions, they have them with Chase Jarvis. I'd kill to spend some time shootin with Chase. Maybe you all should move to NYC...
Wow. Ive been looking at Seattle as a place to move for a long time. Sealed the deal. Im with patrick smith! Moving now!
That is insanely cool. People actually climbed out from behind their basement computer and met in the real world to hang out and shoot! Man I would kill to have people to share photography with. You are all so lucky.
I live in Seattle. But every time I try to get out to these events they fill up too fast :(
that's it......i'm moving to seattle. now where did i put that green card?
if the seattle flickr group ever gets bored, you're welcome to head up here to vancouver for a change of scenery........
Holy crap! hsunmav THANKS for that link!! Everying looks so much BETTER!!! I wish I lived in Seattle.
It's like a cult. If you won't wear the bumper sticker, they won't let you in.
tat wasn't just any old insanely cool local studio. That was Chase's insanely cool local studio.
Okay... I live in Portland, OR - but I would so be willing to drive 3 hours to shoot with Chase Jarvis!
Good work everyone! (and thank goodness that there were no more "panda" incidents (referring to the first Seattle video))
You know... It's only rain and I guess I can get a double fold brolly for the rain and carry it all the time... done... moving like some others now. Well done guys... looks like it was fun! oh, and some decent snap-shots in that set also :-)
Sigh... one day...
Or maybe this is the start of a series of hanger evenst, rolling west-to-east like a NY blackout....
cool video. just one question...
50 snappers + 50+ 4 channel pocket wizzards.
err???
how did you manage that??
Sitbonzo. :-)
@scott: I think a few Oregonians did make the trip up :o
And seeing all those Dick's burgers in the video made me have stop by on the way home tonight and get one, lol.
Sorry... someone has got to give the obvious line, it is begging to be said: "David Hobby cleans up with off camera flash".
:D
So cool, guys and girls. Looks like you had a blast (again).
Okay, so how do I bring one of these events to, yes, New Hampshire? It's beautiful up here year round and the Lakes Region has lots to offer. I'll provide the hanger!
Tooo cool man, Does any seatle tog want to adopt a Geordie tog? Im house trained and work hard!!
As far as I can gather Im the only North East UK strobist :(
Again forget Angelina Jolie and adopting African kids...Adopt a poor Geordie instead so I can come to these meet ups.
Great stuff guys n gals
Gamaliel, who said that in Puerto Rico you were the only one, I'm also here so now there's two of us.
Scott Kelby mentioned this a couple of days ago:

Anybody have one or has dear Strobist mentioned this before? Sorry if I'm being redundant.
ok you guys are make the rest of us look bad by your totally sweet shots.
always a pleasure thanks
OK, I'm busy assembling my students lighting kit. Where can I find the booms, the striplights, the softboxes, the awesome models, was that an M5, and a hangar for a good price. I mean I think I can fit it in the budget but the thing that would throw me over the edge, and I know that no shoot would be the same without it, would be the burger. That looked like a tasty burger!!
I wanna be like Chase!
Where do you guys find the models for these events? Are they paid, or "time for CD" or just friends or what? I've got lots of ideas, but no friends that want to pose. It'd be fun to have an actual model around.
Toronto's doing something similar this weekend in a 80's vacant office, hopefully we can kick Seattle's ass (although we don't have the luxury of having Chase and Dave pose for us, neither the funds for a classy after party :) ).
great video, although as much as their videos rock their soundtracks suck strobe butts (I mean can you say cheese?)
Awesome shoot! I wish I even lived on the same continent as you guys! Maybe its time to emigrate...
I also want to emigrate :-)
I gotta make it to one of these. GAH!

Now I want to move to Seattle... hehe
Anybody feel like a Dallas meetup?
Howdy Dave. Thank you for coming out and being a part of this! It was great to meet you and chat with you, both at Google and at this event.
Hope to see you again soon!
Peace. :-)
- David Lindes
That video was amazing! What a great group the Seattle Strobist group are! I'm soooo impressed.
Although we had fun with David here at Google, it would have been so great to get into that hangar with all those models and all that room.
Brilliant stuff gang!
brilliant. favorite by far is the last image 'sweeping up the flashes'. brilliant.
