Seattle Strikes Again: Hangar Meetup Video

The Seattle crew has posted their video from the latest weekend meetup, raising the bar yet again on their peer-to-peer lighting meetups. I was able to pop in on this one -- and if I would have known they were this fun, I would have started coming long ago.

Just the usual: Fifty photographers, a rented airplane hangar, a ridiculous amount of lighting gear, nine models, a table full of way too realistic-looking weaponry and an "after party" at an insanely cool local studio.

There's a full write-up, including photos a vid by Chase's guys, coming shortly. But I thought you guys might like this look at how the Seattle folks roll.

I'm so jealous! Any chance we can do this is SF? Also, anyone hear of piclens? It throws flickr images onto a 3d wall and even shows full res! I was looking at Martin Prihoda's images and they're sweet! All full res!

Shouldn't this be the plot to a comedy. You know a group of 50 testosterone driven photojournalistic fashionista uber- geeks schedule a drive in photo fest and then come to find out their location is next to a
? You fill in the blank.... The mayhem that ensues.....

I am totally jealous, not only do they have those badass reunions, they have them with Chase Jarvis. I'd kill to spend some time shootin with Chase. Maybe you all should move to NYC...

That is insanely cool. People actually climbed out from behind their basement computer and met in the real world to hang out and shoot! Man I would kill to have people to share photography with. You are all so lucky.

Good work everyone! (and thank goodness that there were no more "panda" incidents (referring to the first Seattle video))

OK, I'm busy assembling my students lighting kit. Where can I find the booms, the striplights, the softboxes, the awesome models, was that an M5, and a hangar for a good price. I mean I think I can fit it in the budget but the thing that would throw me over the edge, and I know that no shoot would be the same without it, would be the burger. That looked like a tasty burger!!

I wanna be like Chase!

Where do you guys find the models for these events? Are they paid, or "time for CD" or just friends or what? I've got lots of ideas, but no friends that want to pose. It'd be fun to have an actual model around.

Toronto's doing something similar this weekend in a 80's vacant office, hopefully we can kick Seattle's ass (although we don't have the luxury of having Chase and Dave pose for us, neither the funds for a classy after party :) ).

great video, although as much as their videos rock their soundtracks suck strobe butts (I mean can you say cheese?)

That video was amazing! What a great group the Seattle Strobist group are! I'm soooo impressed.

Although we had fun with David here at Google, it would have been so great to get into that hangar with all those models and all that room.

Brilliant stuff gang!
