Bert Stephani - Confessions #7

Grab your binky and a bottle of water. Bert's back with another "Confessions" video. There's all-new techno-trancy-housey music. And black undies, too...

(See better res still photos on Bert's blog.)

Seems like Bert got a crack out of the black undies. Thanks for the video.

Hmmm. Confessions of what? I'm sorry, but that was a little disappointing. I was hoping he might confess that he had just about no actual ideas for creating an interesting photograph.

Great stuff. Is this a vivitar he uses?

Also I wonder what he does with these photos. Is there a market for them, or is it just for shooting pleasure?

The model must be great to work with - look at her taking all these great poses. It seems you just need to stand back and click while she's wiggling!

It looked like a vivitar to me at one point. I have to get me a set of pocket wizards. This ebay thing just isnt cutting it for me.

I have to confess, not the best Bert video I've seen, the pictures are okay at best, nothing special and using shoot-thru white brolly and hard light to balance the sun are nothing to write home about.

The photographer's voice reminds me of the sleazy narrator from a Traci Lords movie called "Traci I Love You"! haha anyway this was a good video. As a sometimes photographer, lighting is the thing that vexes me most. Nice to see how the pros do it.

Bert needs to get one of those longtail T-shirts from Duluth Trading : "Solution to Plumber's Butt"

Pretty good video, but a little hard to understand on the audio.

sweet videos, i especially liked the one with the environment theme ( the runing man in 2020 ) great concept

i think he is using vivitars 285HV, most of the outdoors stuff was shot with them i think? (from what i can see from the video, i have no actualy facts ) even tho he said he had 2 580EX II canon flashes in the camera bag video.

P.S. Montreal rules!

Hi David:

A quick heads up on
an online scientific American article entitled Digital Forensics: 5 Ways to Spot a Fake Photo

http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=5-ways-to-spot-a-fake&print=true

this is relevant to strobists, as a lot of it is about reverse engineering light, e.g. looking at highlights in eyes to see when people have been cut and pasted into photos.

Well done on the DVD sales. We told you you'd sell out quick. Didn't beleive us eh ? he he.
We showed you... mine should arrive any day soon ! Well done. lol

He could definitely use a couple of Hildozine Pocket Wizard Caddy's working in that environment. I cringe every time I see someone swinging a PW by the sync cord or lanyard.

Looks sort of (but not really) like a figure shoot I did in the woods here a bit over a week ago. I used a single Alien Bees B1600 (bare bulb - I forgot the reflector and softbox back at the house) with a Vagabond II power pack, in afternoon sun also using PWs. Too bad I can't insert a photo.

It ended up working out ok.

This video was interesting in that it showed what could be done, but not how, such as the flash ratio, where he took his readings from, what effect he was trying to achieve and did he get it? That kind of thing. Demonstration, not instruction (which would have covered the "confession" part). This wasn't a very useful video for peeps who need to know how to do this kind of lighting and a bit boring for those who do.
