November Winner Makes a Splash

Congrats to Haristobald, seen above at upper right, who despite all appearances did not do this photo shoot in the nude. There's a Speedo behind that 70-200.

He shot photos of his local triathlon club's calendar, did a video of the shoot and earned himself the last set of Pocketwizards left to be won in the Going Wireless contest.

This one jumped out at us the very first time we saw it, and it was a unanimous choice for the November winner. More info, including links to two more videos and Martin's site on the PW blog.

Thanks to all who entered, thereby raising the bar for all of the shooters who watched the 70-some-odd videos that were submitted. And if you missed any of the other four winning flicks, hit the jump for a quick recap.
__________

July Winner: Ryan Allan

August Winner: Jesse Rosten

September Winner: Danish Puthan Valiyandi

October Winner: Jerry Vo

Very cool stuff, all. You can also see all of the entries, here. Thanks to all who entered, and congrats again to the winners.

Definitely keep an eye out for more fun stuff like this stuff in the future.

Nice! Could have done without the speedo action (Martin, why weren't you wearing shorts or something?!) but the images were great, and the concept very cool. Congrats, sir! You deserve it!

This is simply some of the best application of time, talent and tools I've seen since the SB in the desert series. Huzzah!

I'm belgian too, and spent quite a while in pools (olympic preparation swimming team years ago)... they just have rules on what you can wear inside pools around here. Shorts = no. Speedo = yes. And if you go in water you need a thing on your hair too :)

I'm sure he would have liked shorts better as well... speedoes are err... even more so when you wear a 70-200 :D

Did someone actually criticize the photographer for wearing a bathing suit during a pool shoot? Now that's funny.

Great video and excellent shots. Grand use of light (and one's creative mind!)

Thanks for sharing this David.

@JS-

It appears that the music is by a band called Kings of Leon, who are not someone I listen to so I would not know.

To those who have pointed this out in various ways in (unmoderated) comments, please not that, as per the comments TOS, music issues are better left as comments on the actual YouTube page of the video rather than here.

This site's policy (see TOS #6, above) is if a video is on YouTube, it is eligible to be embedded here. Discussions on music rights belong on the original YT page, where they are far less of a threadjack than they are here.

Thx,
DH

inspiring video. i think this highlights a realm of photography that's beyond amateur fumblings. there was a solid concept, the shots/series were pre-planned, and there was excellent grasp of technicals to execute the shoot. what comes out as a result is "wow, how did he do that?" photographs, even after watching the video. hats off!

Great shots, I too really like the "Running On Water" images.

The music is by Kings of Leon - the song is called "Fans"

I like the 'Strobist Jet Pack'. Yeah you like a real dweeb but in the absence of a couple assistants, it does the job. I thought it was pretty innovative. It takes DIY to a different level. I wouldn't be surprised if someone tries to spin it off into a marketable product. The only downside is you have to be careful of a good gust of wind you may end up going airborn.

Just to be clear, I was just joking about the speedo thing. I could care less what the guy's wearing during his shoot, ( can't argue with that kind of confidence!). Images were great and original, that's what matters!

Budgie Smugglers are neat. I think that is probably his normal shooting attire rather than just for his 'shoot at the pool'. Amazing.

Ah yeah, Belgium in the house!
Hear me now, Belgium will the be Seattle of 2009 :) (and not just because I was in Seattle last year and Belgium this year)

but... speedo's required? I guess I ain't going anywhere near a pool!

Wow, love the shots. As a fashion and commercial photographer myself, once aspect of these feild that amazes me every time is how "not wow" the actual shoot looks. Simple black backdrop near a pool, yet the outcome is so different then what we see in real life. I get these comments on my shoots all the time, but i guess it effects me more when I see others post their videos.

Props to you Martin for going the extra mile. I know many of my photog buddies wouldn't dread of entering the water with there camera. I'm always down for stuff like that. Great work, and great lighting, never stop my friend!
