2008 Weblog Awards Finalists Announced
"We'd like to thank our parents, the Academy, the people who make black straws, Gary Fong and..." Oh, wait. We've only been nominated for the 2008 Weblog Awards. We haven't actually won anything yet. We're just a finalist.
Hey, but being nominated is cool, too, right? Right? Hello?
Kidding aside, I am quite stoked to announce that that not only was Strobist nominated for Best Photo Blog (which is first time we have ever been nominated for anything) but the Strobist Flickr Group was nominated for Best Online Community. That's YOU.
This is hugemongous. I mean, you are sharing the dais with the likes of Android Community and the Michael Jackson Fan Forum. (If you are a a lighting photographer and a Jacko fan, it's decision time, bucko.)
In Best Photo Blog there are many strong finalists, including The Online Photographer and the always first rate Big Picture, which surfs the wires for great photos and gives them the play they deserve. (It is run by the picture desk at The Boston Globe.)

viral, strobist is totally viral.
strobist is like the fight club of photography. 1. it makes you curious and watch; 2. you willingly partake in the brawl that we call our flickr gourp - and hope somebody notices you, and; 3. you just wanna blow things up everywhere (with cheapo materials to match).
Eeeeh, Jackson or Strobist, Jackson or Strobist? So hard to chose! Well I suppose I can vote for Strobist and still enjoy doing the Thriller. :D

I hafta say, I am a HUGE TWiP fan but it has been nowhere near as influential on my photography & the Strobist blog has.
Congrats on the lopsidedness of the poll too Mr.Hobby, Strobist has like 60% of the votes out of like 10 choices & the rest is spread pretty evenly so I'd say it's pretty much a lock.

This is great and well deserved. I was last a pro in 1986 with "available light" but thanks to you for the first time in my life I'm a photographer as in one who paints with light.

This has to be like sweeps week for television. In order to dominate this, you need to have a killer lineup of posts for each day of the week to drive traffic to both your site and to the voting page.
Right now you're ahead, but not as much as you could be. If you have a few new posts that really show off what this site can do, along with some that point to the flickr group, then there would be no contest.
