I'm at Scott's House Today
You know how when you were a kid, sometimes you'd head over to a friend's house to play -- and their place would be way nicer than yours? You know, like maybe they had a pool and a trampoline and indoor plumbing and everything?
Today, I got invited to do a guest post on Scott Kelby's blog. You know, that Scott Kelby. Mr. Entire Photoshop Industry.
So, Scott's house would have, say, a helicopter pad. And maybe a gift shop on the lower level. The guy could buy and sell me ten times over.
(Okay maybe you could buy me, Kelby. But you'd have a tough time selling me, pal.)
Anyway, you don't turn down an invite like that. And he said I could write about anything I wanted. So I wrote about sports photography, and a game called "First Frame." If you're up for it, you can see it here.

I often find that the first image I shoot a music event when covering, ends up being my favourite / the best image. From there I usually spend the rest of my 10-15 minutes of shooting trying to best that first shot.
Maybe Scott could reciprocate?
Wow so early in the morning as well. Cool blog DH. Hopefully you won't stay there too long....
Keby's the man, and you of course David, my tow favourite guys! Lesley.
Kelby's the man, and you of course David! My two favourite guys, Lesley.
I always enjoy reading anything from a sports photographer (didn't know you did that btw).
I have a shot just like that, I mean the motion blur pan, of a high school football player. Everyone complained about the motion blur. Of course it's one of my favorite shots.
post on guru`s blog!
You are lucky men David!

Yet one more reason to move to Seattle.
And a great read it was too!! Congrats on the photography blog voting btw!! Surely you have it in the bag
Scotts house may look nicer on the outside, but it seems somebody spilled a bucket of glue in his hallway.
I don´t know if this apoies only to my connection, but his site takes a whole lot longer to load than strobist.com.
I really like both sites, but the loadtime makes it a bit frustrating to read Scotts.
Cool post btw!
Cheers!

Wow... So we will see a strobist serie for Kelby training?
Good luck!
I really enjoyed your post at Scott's house. Your writing style is so very friendly, open and inviting. It was also nice to hear/see you talk about just making good shots. Not that your lighting stuff isn't over-the-top great, just that you have a lot experience more to offer and I was happy to see/read some of it. I'd love to see you add more shot making, but not necessarily lighting lessons into your posts.
All the best.
That was a great read.
I hope you'll get the opportunity to post some more non lighting related stuff some time.
Now I'm imagining playing a game of "first-frame" at a total eclipse:
dang! I missed it, ah well, better luck next time.
Great stuff -- love the prediction that Ichiro will get hit by his own ball he's so fast.
Your writing style is so good you better be careful or someone will be calling you a trained monkey some day! :)
How does it feel to be a Weblog winner?
Great post and view of Scott's house - I don't get over to his place often enough.
BTW I didn't know you guest-wrote. I'm always looking for a good guest writer, although coming to my house isn't like going to Kelby's. I have more of the apartment in the city with no neighbors so we can get crazy & party and have a good time at our Superbowl Party. There's always food & drink and we'll clean it tomorrow. (blog is www.NiltoMil.com )
Would love to have you do a lighting post - either someday soon or when you think it's worth your while. lol
No need to publish the comment, just thought I'd let you know I'd love to share some light with the microstockers among us. :)

What does the "-30-" mean at the end of your posts?
What does the "-30-" mean at the end of your posts?
Just that, the end of the post. David posted about it awhile back, but I can't find that post just yet as I don't remember was it was called
Hi David,
I am sorry but I have looked everywhere for a way of contacting you but there is no where on this blog where I can post a general question so I hope you forgive me for using this post to do so. Anyway my name is Ian Regnard and I am a photographer in Australia. I have just started a blog also to try educating other photographers in my industry. I am trying to figure out how to monitor or to find out how many people subscribes to the RSS feeds etc.. basically how many people eventually are getting the stuff that I am writting about. I have found a website called Statcounter but this only limits it to the first 500 hits for the month than the fees are pretty high. I was wondering if you could help me out and point me in the right direction.
You can contact me at ian@tungsten.net.au
Thanks so much in advance.
Cheers,
Ian
PS I absolutely love your blog and I am still trying to catch up on all the reading. My next move is buying you book (they are hard to get..).
"EDITOR'S NOTE: WooHoo! (Preliminary) results indicate that we won in two categories"
Knock knock.
Who's there?
Woo.
Woo who?
Don't get so excited. It's just
a knock knock joke.
...
Sorry.
Yeah, that's the way videotaping weddings went for me. The first was the best. It all went downhill from there. Luckily, these days, people ask me to shoot movies. :)
Great blog David.
You're a great writer and wouldn't mind some of these non-strobe related posts from time to time over at the strobist :)
Ahh - two of my favorite photography teachers. I've done conferences/seminars with both david and scott and they were fantastic. Both use humor very well to make lessons fun and interesting. This is a collaboration I would love to see more of!
