Strobist Lighting DVDs Translated Into English
Okay, not exactly. They are still full of mispronunciations and numerous grammatical errors, so as to remain true to the website. But at least they are now available reasonably in the UK and EU. If you drive on the left side of the road and think football is played with your feet, keep reading.
__________
The Flash Centre, seen here propping up reader Richard Licence, is now carrying the set and will be shipping to UK and EU without your having to give up your firstborn kid. That means no extended waits, usurious duties or made-up UPS fees. The price is £102.35 incl Vat (£89.00 exc Vat). Shipping to UK/EU will be £6.60 and £9, respectively. EU is three day delivery, UK is next day. After my experiences with the wonderful, deep-discount city you call "London," we worked the system to get pricing parity between the US and the UK. This may be a first in the history of the world.
It comes in at a little less before VAT and a little more after, and almost dead even when you add in the standard sales tax here in the US. Don't tell McDonalds we were able to do this, or they are gonna be pissed off.
They will be in stock as of Weds., January 14th. You can order in UK/EU from the web here. Or better yet, hit the TFC London store in person just to give Alex Ray a hard time about anything you want. (Tell him I said it was okay.)
More info on the DVDs is here, including how to best get them if you are not in the UK/EU area. And please remember that the camera adds

Thanks David,
don't tell anyone that I'm on holiday ;-)
But seriously, many thanks for your help and effort in letting us stock these.
I look forward to your next visit, with more hot food and beer!
All the best
Alex Ray

PS. the DVDs actually arrive in London tomorrow (wed 14th) at around 4pm. I'd hate to have the strobistites banging down the door at 9am for nothing :-)
but FOOTball is played with the FEET.
silly americans... ;)
Srobist DVD in UK....Hurrah (that's English for Yip-Ki-Ay) !
I really love your sponsor of this months posts, do you think he'll be able to put these photos on some nifty plates with fireworks in the background?
Alex, don't you mean "boiled food and warm beer"?
subtitles in Portuguese, when?
What's that in kilograms?
Looking forward to getting the DVDs ;-)
… but really you Americans got something messed up when you figured out how to adapt European sports - FOOTball played with the hands? And with body armour? And the WORLD series for US teams only?! Heh heh ;-)
and think football is played with your feet
Thats why you use your feet and use a ball, otherwise it would be call handball for you americans.... silly....
I may buy this for the sole fact that someone seems to be able to price a product equally for us and the Americans!
Seriously, how did you do it? Did you skimp on the translation into English - are we going to find certain words like Authorise spelt incorrectly? I do hope not.
Have you scraped away the packaging and DVD until it's wafer-thin, and thus saved on additional postage costs?
Apple, McDonalds and Adobe should be knocking on your door any-time now!
Brilliant! do you think I should camp outside the store tonight in my sleeping bag?
DanB: It's called the WORLD Series because it was originally started by a newspaper called 'The World'. Geez, I'm an Australian and even I know that. :p
Speaking of.. When is it going to be converted to PAL and distributed in Australia? :) Pwetty Pwease? :)
J
Is that bus Photoshop'ed or are you really getting the DVD's advertised on said bus?
For those of you in the UK who have yet to buy the series, I can't recommend them enough! I bought from MPEX and have watched them multiple times.
DanB
The World Series isn't for US teams only. Contrary to popular opinion, Canada is not part of the US.
The British don't deserve such finery they're waaayyyy too common!!
(Brit baiting)
You can barely understand half of 'em without subtitles.
For example:
"Oi, Watch'ya", - (U.S) " Hi - how are you"
"How-Zat! you ol' codja" - (U.S.) "What do you think of that ol' man!"
"Bollocks my meat and two veg are some kind of tackle" - (U.S.) unmentionable
"How'z ya fathver- alwihite?" - (U.S.) "just like that - ok"
"flipin'ell I split m'sides!" (U.S.) "Jeeze, that was a bloody funny!"
- come on they even call it a "flash" instead of strobe! ( - flashist.blogspot.com - loses something in translation)
However, I agree American football is for pansy's because real men play Rugby. But baseball is definitely better than cricket.
Ah, who are we kidding we love the British - they're like family - born into but not chosen.
I immediately ordered once i read this post, without a second thought. The DVDs are finally available in the EU, yay! I'm ordering from Germany and am really looking forward to watch them!
-Fabio
Hey, what's that country next to the UK again, ah yeah it's Europe...
I kinda feel like we are rushed, like the end of a pharmaceutical ad.
"Also available in that strange country with the Euro Money"
:D
P.S.: It's "Fussball"
ah... @virginia photographer: I've lived in london my whole life and very few people I know speak like that, and I'm from the part of London depicted on a soap called "Eastenders", so I should know. It seems to have died out, now we all speak with an Estuary English accent... Anyway, yay for strobist DVD in the UK... boo for the price. I epitomize the words "starving student" so £100 is an awful lot to me, but I'll scrimp and save in order (or put it on the credit card) so I can add it to my now growing collection on lighting.
Thanks David. Ordered today. Now - when are you coming to Germany???
...and remember that cricket is the only game that comes with a pub physically built into the pitch. Even golf involves a walk off the links and into the clubhouse.
Little wonder that it takes five days to finish a match.
OK, now I'm P.O.'ed. I'm in London frequently and I pass within a block of this place most times and I didn't even know it was there! How sad is that. You big city folk might not think much of this, but when we rural folk hit the bright lights, its a golden opportunity to see, touch, and try all of these things we read about.
Get the tea ready, Alex. I'll be over soon!
:-)
I know I was just kidding. It was a gross perversion of the language so I apologies. - I grew up in England around Cambridge, all schooling and Mum is Welsh.
Please send Flakes, Yorkies & PG Tips soon. Very home sick. The good thing is I live near DH so maybe just proximity will help my photo skills.
That's great news - sadly, I have already given my children (kids) and my Nikon (NYEkon) to Mr UPS to have my copy posted (shipped) to Scotland in Great Britain (London or England).
David, you have my vote for Bloke (Entrepreneur) of the Year. ;-)

Looking forward to the DVD's. Just to clarify it's only in England (GB) that they actually drive in the 'wrong' side of the road.. Anyone doing that here (in Denmark)and the rest of the other EU countries risk getting a nasty surprise.. And here we call what the plastic-clad americans do on astro-turf for 'American Football'. What we do with the ball in europe is simply called Football. Thanks for a fantastic site, btw.
I just got back from The Flash Centre with my copy and I noticed on the rear, it really does say "Subtitled in English"
Now how do I explain to my wife that we can't eat this week?
Actually we drive on the left hand side of the road in Scotland as well, as do the Welsh & Irish.
Nice job David putting the football thing in the text to get our attention ;) because we all know that you too (read americans) understand how silly it is to take the name of the biggest international sport and use it in an "america only" sport, that is NOT played with the feet, and according to dictionary, "Ball = A spherical object or entity", is NOT played with a ball and where the players have more armor then soldiers at war! And oh, did I mention that there is a break/time-put/commercial every 10 seconds and the total game time is 10% of the whole shabang? The name is in fact so mismatched that if europeans started calling your sport baseball for "swimming", it would be equal.
Great DVD David and great job with the site.. will pick one up really soon!
Just recieved my order from The Flash Centre. It took a week getting here (The Netherlands) by mail from the UK, but I am happy.
I also want to note TFC's excellent service. They responded quickly on my email asking them to add to the online order.
George.
What came first:
the chicken or the egg?
"feet" football or American football?
One of these questions has an answer haha
