Dan Winters / WIRED Behind the Scenes

Apologies for the double-tap on WIRED, but Andrew Hetherington over at WTJ just dropped in a behind-the-scenes piece on maybe the coolest set of photos I have seen all year.

It's Dan Winters, shooting Brad Pitt for the current WIRED in a "New Rules" issue that is wrapped in the theme of Inglourious Basterds. It's a great walk-thru of just what all is involved in pulling a shoot like this together -- very quickly, I might add.

That cover shot is unbelievable. How amazing is it to be that good, that you make it look soooo easy?

Awesome!

I didn't see any mention of this on the site yet (but who knows with so many comments!), but I just wanted to let you know that Strobist.com is mentioned by Russ Roca in a Rangefinder article interview in the July 2009 issue (pg. 78). Cheers.

They didn't review my paper one either. Works great, but I'll admit durability will be an issue. Though, the price is nice.

Welcome to the world of illusion and dream, the masked magician often reveals the camera tricks that fool us, and we do this with speed-lights right in the real world, how fun

First off just found the site not to long ago and love it..Thank you for the info.
Second, I just saw a video interview on youtube and you were using sb800 lights but showed you with a canon camera. Is that the setup you normally use? If so are you using PW's to fire the flashgun? Thanks...keep up the great work.

Hi David, I just posted an article about a DIY back-lit backdrop I designed to speed up the processing of the photographs.

Would be great if you mention it in here.
Thanks

Great post. you got a typo there, though: Inglorious Basterds, should be Inglorious Bastards

I wish I could afford production values.

I thought it was called Inglorious Bass Turds - a follow up to A River Runs Through It.

2 Eran Mahalu,

To date, there has been little explanation of the title spelling. In American English, the presumed correct spelling would be "Inglorious Bastards," without the extra u in Inglourious and with an a instead of an e in Basterds. When asked, Tarantino would not explain the u and said, "But the 'Basterds'? That's just the way you say it: Basterds."
