JoeyL is on Ovation TV Tonight
UPDATE: The doc has aired, and Joey has posted a ton of pictures and background info on his blog. Neat stuff, and definitely worth a look.
__________

Just a quick heads-up to make sure to catch JoeyL's documentary tonight at 10pm on Ovation TV. I saw an early version, and it is definitely worth your time.
It's easy to want to poke fun at someone who is so successful at such a young age. And between you and me I try to every chance I get. But if you watch this thing tonight I think you will come away with a good impression of who he really is and what is motivating him to do such amazing stuff.
If you do not get Ovation TV, he has arranged for a DVD pressing and will have them available via his blog. No idea on pricing, etc. (And w/Joey, you really never know...)
But if you have access to Ovation TV, don't miss it. I am very much looking forward to it tonight.

I was hoping you would post something about JoeyL's TV debut tonight! I have been watching him grow for 3 years! This kid is terrific! I set my TIVO 2 weeks ago for this one!

Oh no! the only package where Ovation is not offered is the one I have. (Darn Package offers...I'll happily trade 300 infomercial channels for it! Come on, does Zumba need to be on 15 channels at once?) Sorry I gotta miss this one, I checked out the website and would really like to watch it. Enjoy...and think of us who have crappy packages.

Wish I could see it, don't have the channel though :(
Does anyone else think that joeyL is contributing to the very demise of this culture? He is bringing in photo equipment, lights, pictures...things that do not exist in the tribal world. Also by making it public...will encourage others to do the same. Slowly...this race will be lost.
great photos though heh
There's a great post and video on Mental Floss about painting with light and an iPad:

These were my initial thoughts as well. I'm generally torn on these types of things. I can see the value to both preserving a culture by this kind of activity by virtue of raising awareness (e.g. his donations to Survival International), but I can also see degradation of a culture on the other side of the same coin. Given that this was personal work, it would be honorable if the "portion" that he donates to S.I. was 100% of everything that he didn't need to cover expenses...
The editing of the show was a bit contorted, but in general, I liked seeing it and appreciate the Hobbster for tipping us off.
For anyone who missed it the first time, I checked Ovation's schedule and it is one again this Saturday (October 2) at 2 am, 9 pm and Midnight.

Thanks so much for this. I didn't even realize I had a channel called the ovation channel and I will seeing more of that. Joey is pretty amazing. Wish I had my stuff together at that age.
Hey David...was looking for in for info on Joey L and ND filters. Came across this blog( first page, actually using - joey L neutral density - as my search term.
Figured you get lots of these people copying your blog, but not sure if you knew about this guy.

Yeah, they are a scummy scraper site, and I have been trying to DMCA Takedown them via their host, The Planet, for the better part of a month.
Unfortunately, dealing with The Planet's legal dept is like going up against Maurice Levy, the drug dealers' lawyer in The Wire.
Finally got thru to them -- so they say -- but they are still slow in taking the sites down. Always a little conflicted, I suppose, when it is the copyright infringers paying their bills.
Joey made it on NPR too!
I read Joey's blog and have watched the videos on the blog and I think he's an amazing young man. As I see it, it appears as though the culture was disappearing into the modern world before he arrived there.
I am very happy to have had the experience to see and appreciate a culture I would have never even know existed.
I have a 15 year old that I sat down and showed the blog and everything on it. She was so impressed and realized at that moment that age is no barrier to success. She was impressed at his courage, talent, and that fact that he's so cute! LOL
I thought of you as I was watching him film with the light box.
I'm very thankful for his project, and your post of him.
Best wishes!
