Just out of curiosity could you let us know how much the Strobist blog's traffic increases due to a mention in the New York Times? I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to know.

I'm more curious to know how they get away with putting up a picture of a EF 50mm f/1.8 MKI. A lens that hasn't been made since 1989.

A good Christmas present for sure but good luck finding one.

David, I have to pick on you. The NY Times article quotes you as saying photogs should use an alarm clock to take "dusk or dawn" pictures. But you've always talked about your own habit of sleeping in.

You yankin' our chains there? :-D

@Sleepy-

I will get up for a good picture, or really good fishing. But it takes an sequenced array of iPhone alarms to do it.

Start with crickets, just in case the first one works. Then, at 1 minute intervals, bells, dog barking, and that emergency alarm thingie sound.

Usually works.

Don't you hate articles about a subject, where it is clear the writer knows nothing about the subject?

I love the "D.S.L.R" with periods. I guess the Times doesn't have editors with any photography experience.

While I poke fun at them, at least they point people in the right directions - lenses and lighting gear.

Excellent! It's very nice to see your name in print. I know you've been there many a times too but it never gets old. I remember my work being published for the first time I bought the magazine then ran around showing EVERYONE! =)

@MasterOfGoingFaster

The New York Times has very fixed policies on acronyms. It seems that when the acronym is spoken as a set of initial letters, it is always written with periods, like "D.S.L.R." and "U.S.". It's just a style guide thing, it has nothing to do with ignorance of the subject.

Congrads David, if they spell your name right and quote your correctly that's half the battle.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.

David, Great stuff, but when are you going to start writing for the China Daily or the
Shanghai Daily? This will get you access to a truly huge market.

Have a great Christmas and new year from all of us in China.

Peter?
