Joe McNally Needs Just One SB-800 to Own You
The Photoshop TV guys (who have a wonderful archive of online tutorial videos) featured Joe McNally back on episode 70. The whole sequence is on stuff he did with just one speedlight. Cool beans.
If, like moi, your photos are absolutely perfect right out of the camera and you do not need PS, you can catch Joe's segment beginning at the 12:30 mark.

Thanks! I've been looking for a tutorial on how to reflect 3d images like the ones they covered in the show. And of course, learning from Joe Mcnally is always a treat.
Yikes!
Is is possible to turn the music on the open up a little? I can still (though just barely) make out that a person is talking in the background.
After about 10 seconds of this, I hit pause, to allow the buffer to fill up, and I'll see if the music goes away during the actual content.
But my first thought was to just turn it off.
There might only be one light, but..."The camera is on a boom outside the helicopter"

I didn't know that Jim Cramer was from Canada and made photoshop tutorials...
In the motorcycle shot on the Strobist page, he is using a - GASP - on camera flash. It's only one light, though.
This is interesting to say the least.
In case no one here knows of this information, you can save YouTube videos by downloading them using a website named www.kissyoutube.com.
If you go to the video link to YouTube's website and insert the word "kiss" in front of the youtube.com in the address bar, it will take you to a page that will allow you to download the video... just scroll down towards the bottom of the page and click on Download Now. Name the file: filename.FLV and you can watch it using a flash video player on your computer (like KMPlayer or ).
Hehehehe, total ownage.
Joe's an awesome speaker and instructor. And is a master Strobist.
I am completely annoyed by how much he brags about having almost no part in the outcome of these images. "I let the camera [decided everything for me]". As much as David preaches about complete control, this guy is the exact opposite. "OOh technology is amazing, the camera did everything, "I could have been sipping a coffee". How could someone held in such high regard relinquish control to that extent?
Am I missing something or did he essentially say that all of these shots were taken using Nikon CLS?
Ouch. One of the worst videos ever.
Why does the guy on the left look so worried? It's as if he's surfaced from the witness protection program.

I LOVE Joe McNally's work. Love it. I do find, however, Joe does tout his Nikon equipment as much as a NASCAR driver does his car...
"Weeelllll....me and my Reeses Pieces Chevy did our best coming out of turn two, with them Goodyear Premium tires gripping the track, but I got loose and hit the Craftsman-sponsored guard rail."
I suppose Joe has bills to pay too.

Efrudd - I'm trying my best to stifle laughter here at work as I read your comment.
I echo the thoughts of you guys as well. I guess I need to start shooting ETTL and drinking coffee while I snap away.
Really impressive, Joe has delivered a master class in minutes :), the rest of the video is of no interest form me I don't photomanipulate photos in that heavy extent :P.... do your work in the camera, adjust levels in photoshop :D that is how I like my photos!!!
Hey David,
Thought this was the best place to post this. Not sure if you've seen it but JM Plugs you in the vid and it's funny as heck. Really enjoy the blog, I thought I'd read it all until you indexed it....
