Mind that Oven Timer
Don't forget, if you are participating in the the second assignment from Bootcamp II, your photo is due by the end of Saturday, July 11th, local time. That's today.
Hit the jump for a quick preview of some of the stuff that is already coming in:
Suffice to say, it is going to take me a few days to whittle this stuff down to finalists and a winner. Plus, I am sure there is going to be a little extra snacking involved ...

Woot! I feel a lot better about my entry this time around...
I have almost become obsessed with checking out the entries as they come in! So many interesting images. It looks like a lot of people have been turned on to the strange and fascinating world of food photography.
i want those chocolates from the video
These assignments really show off people's creativity, even though I'm not so pleased with my entry any more, it's been such a joy seeing what others have come up with. Awesome work everyone!
There are some stunning entries in that slideshow. I don't envy you the task of selecting. Well done to everybody so far.
I'm so digging the Heinie ... very kewl!
Mmm, an icey cold red stripe beer and a load of ganja. Brave entry!
There are some amazing entries. The amateur side in me is crying foul - "Pro's aren't allowed to compete are they?" Seriously good stuff in the above flickr-search-slide-show.
Good luck DH.
yay, I see my photo there.
sadly I think there are many far better ones, but oh well.
great work everyone :)
Thanks for this goldmine! I am new to lighting and your efforts are a godsend -;0)
I love shooting metal in natural light and have made that my trademark style - will be adding some more indiscrete light after diggin around here a bit.
You and others here might enjoy another master of lights work, Michael Lichter (the best bike imager around - I have no affilation with him - unfortunately)
This time lapse of a shooting day is off the scale:

His blog and site are also filled with jaw droppers.
Cheers - John
oh, my gosh! These are all totally mindblowing. How can you ever possibly pick a contest winner out of these??
Amazing entries, although I think anything with Diet Mountain Dew as a subject should be disqualified because the judge has a serious conflict of interest. :-)
Tim Bosma
This has been an amazing assignment, and I am not envious in any way of David's chore to pick a single Best in Show.
Way to go everyone!
Lots of beautiful entries!
The goldfish one is interesting. But I don't think it makes me feel like eating goldfishes haah.
wow, I was pretty jazzed about my entry - until I saw the others... Really, really great stuff here.
Wow!! You may have bitten off more than you can chew :-)
Hi Dave, I've been a full time photographer more about 25 years, I've been doing food photography for the last 8 years using Speedo strobe lighting, (you can see some photo samples on flikr under Joaquin Andrade) and I can't wait to start shooting with my rescued from the basement Nikon SB-24's (3), I will try to emulate some of my previous shots using my off camera flashes and I will send you the shots and set up to prove that I used SB-24's for the shots.
Sweet holy Moses...
I don't see how you're going to pick a winner Dave.
Wow. That redstripe photo is bold! well done everyone.
I had a fun time with this assignment and was pretty pleased with my shot. However there are A LOT of fantastic shots in this assignment.
I'm wondering if the Strobist blog became a foody blog.
just an incredible collection of images, and if i didn't know otherwise i would think many were directly out of product shots by pros.
I've also enjoyed looking at those entries who added links to the setup of their shots. Really helps those of us learning how the image was created.
Good work everyone
wow - i guess the real gain of this bootcamp is seeing so many phantastic images on (basically) the same subject. i should probably advertise my own entry, but my favourite so far is the one with the nonpareils.
Europe is done it is now past midnight. We had a blast taking part, so thanks David for having the guts to organise a world wide competition like this.
Good luck everyone!
I have been shooting different food things all week (having a blast too!)...my husband says "please stop as I gained 5 pounds eating all your shooting props"
LOL
He really did too

This is great: Fast food ads vs reality...

And now we are all guilty. :)
Wow. I feel small. Great Great Great photos all the way through. :)
I'm so impressed with the entries. You've all inspired to do some food shooting this week. Thanks for that!
I'm amazed at the quality of the submissions. But it's a little disappointing that nobody picked up the gauntlet and showed us haggis in good light (grin).

You have the hardest job yet. Bravo on the assignment and bravo who participated. It has been a blast...now I have to go & eat what I shot.
-Diesel
The really sad part is that some of the most stunning images don't have the second shot with the coins in it.
Cogratulations for all! lot´s of tequilas and japanese food. cool!
caprae-
Only the winner needs to produce the coins pic, to verify it was shot after the start date.

Congrats to all. lot´s of tequilas and japanese food!
Hey dave, my entry was on time, but bumped from the pool for not having strobist info. Here's the deal: I added the info twice on the night I entered and am not sure why it didn't get added to the photo. Anyways I have added it again and hope that you will consider the fact that it was submitted before the deadline. Thanks and the assignment has been great fun. Thanks Dave, I spent several hours on this project and it was a big let-down to see my image bumped from the pool. Chrisdavid42
Okay, I ran into the same problem as Chris but didn't realize it until today as well. I didn't see any other instructions than to tag the photo and enter it into the pool. Newbie mistake I guess. I would love to know that I was considered for entry at least. I love your blog, (really not trying to brown nose...) its helped me expand my business and passion for photography. I re-entered my pic today. Thanks anyways,
Tom
My good god! Mr. Hobby, your work is cut out for you. All of the entries are phenomenal!
Some reminds me of Gary Perweiler's work in the 80's, my favorite is the cheezeums falling, taken with rear courtain burst.
mark
hmmm i do not see my submission, but when I sign on to my flickr account I see my submission when I click the search button.
any ideas???
Unbelieveable -- I've scrolled through pages of these, and have yet to see an image that would look out-of-place in a magazine or in a professionally-created menu.
What really floored me was the really creative nature of many of them -- great placement/composition of subject(s) and light, interesting combinations of items, etc.
David, you should be proud that you have inspired so many to create such beautiful images (and educated many of them on how to do it).
Watching some of these awesome entries on a 24 inch monitor in full screen is mind boggling!

I had a lot of fun putting my picture together, and even more fun going through all the great shots people created. I put together a behind the scenes video of my entry for the assignment which you can view here.
Thanks again for the assignment and the regular inspirations to do more with my photography.
Did anyone else notice that the Red Stripe bottle was sitting on a pile of weed?
